Heroin Not Exclusive to “Hardened City Junkies”

Heroin use is most definitely on the rise in America. Since prescription opiates are difficult to obtain legally and are “increasingly expensive on the black market,” heroin has become the most viable option. As headlines and cover images are shifting to feature more people in suburbs abusing the drug, researchers hope that the discourse related to heroin abuse will start to shift. There is a hope that the drug will be seen as a relevant and attainable threat rather than a far-off “problem in communities of color,” as Lerner and Stamp write in The Washington Post.
