A Substance Abuse Rehab Center Can Help

Posted on 08. Jul, 2013 by in Alcohol & Drug Abuse

A substance abuse rehab center is a place where a person can go to rid himself or herself of addiction. A facility welcomes people of all economic classes, races, genders and religious groups. Rehab centers offer a wide range of services to help people direct themselves toward a drug free life. One of the main services a center offers is detoxification. Detoxification is the second step in the recovery process after admission. Detox is the cleansing of the person’s body of the substance to which he or she is addicted. The detoxification period can last from three short days to two long weeks. The type of substance the person used and the amount of time he or she ingested it determines the detoxification period.

Another service that a substance abuse rehab center may offer is group counseling. Group counseling sessions consist of a gathering of people who also suffer with addictions and other challenges. The group shares stories and strategies with other members so that all members can learn from each other.

The facility may also offer individualized therapy. Individualized therapy usually consists of one client and one therapist. The therapist helps the client to overcome urges. He or she may also help the client to build better coping skills so that drug use will not be on his or her mind.

Professional drug rehabs also offer aftercare services and support. Drug rehabilitation is a lifelong fight. Clients should have continued moral support and advice even after the program ends.
